A Chorus of Women is inviting the Canberra community to a unique event that blends music, reflection, and future thinking. Glenda’s Works and Days: A 2050 Futurespective will be held on Saturday 8 November 2025, from 10.45 am to 3.30 pm, in the ACT Legislative Assembly Reception Room.
This special gathering, presented by A Chorus of Women in collaboration with Craig San Roque and Miriam Pickard, will honour the life and creative legacy of Dr Glenda Cloughley (1952–2023). Dr Cloughley was a community leader, anthropologist, and composer whose vision helped shape two decades of artistic storytelling and civic song-making in Canberra.
A journey to the future
Set in the imagined year 2050, the event looks back from a more peaceful and sustainable future where the climate has been stabilised and communities thrive in harmony. This creative vantage point provides a hopeful space for audiences to reflect on how humanity can evolve toward balance and renewal.
Across the day, audiences will experience selections from the large body of songs, compositions, and major works written by Dr Cloughley between 2003 and 2023 during her time with A Chorus of Women. These works have long explored themes of care for the Earth, collective voice, and the role of women’s wisdom in healing both people and planet.
Reflecting and imagining together
Alongside performances and readings, the day will include guided reflection and open conversation. Participants will be invited to share ideas and imagine the changes needed to build a safer, more compassionate future. This collaborative aspect echoes the spirit of A Chorus of Women, a collective known for blending art and activism to foster community dialogue.
The event will be enriched by contributions from creative collaborators and members of the Canberra Jung Society, who are supporting the day with catering and hospitality. A light lunch and refreshments will be provided, creating opportunities for informal connection and conversation among attendees.
Honouring legacy through collective creativity
Dr Glenda Cloughley’s work has inspired many in Canberra and beyond. Her compositions have connected classical, folk, and choral traditions with a deep sense of social purpose. Through this futurespective, A Chorus of Women continues her mission to use music as a form of civic expression and collective healing.
By reimagining her songs from the perspective of 2050, the group invites the audience to step into a possible future where hope and harmony are guiding forces. The day’s program encourages not only remembrance, but also participation, reflection, and the co-creation of new ideas about the kind of world communities can build together.
