Oh and following our pause last week the Coalition got back together! Here is the key points to be across;

The Liberal and National parties have re-formed their longstanding Coalition just eight days after a significant split, the first since 1987. As part of the reunification agreement, the Nationals secured in-principle commitments from the Liberals on four significant policy areas being; lifting the nuclear energy moratorium, establishing a $20 billion Regional Australia Future Fund, implementing supermarket divestiture powers and improving rural telecommunications.

Following the reunification, a new shadow cabinet was announced. Despite the formal reunification, underlying tensions persist within the Coalition. Critics argue that the agreement serves more as a temporary truce than a resolution of fundamental differences.

Here’s what’s happening closer to home—because sometimes it’s the smaller stories that shape our day-to-day lives.

Woden: “Welcome to Canberra Expo” was a heartwarming success

The 2025 Welcome to Canberra Expo at Southern Cross Club in Woden was a heartwarming success, bringing together over 35 community organisations and hundreds of visitors under one roof. Organised by Zakia Patel and her team, the event radiated warmth and connection, with vols offering open arms and valuable information to new Canberrans. From free food programs to cultural connection points, every stall had something meaningful to share, including a touching act of kindness where a young volunteer shared a sandwich with someone in need. With such strong community spirit on display, calls are already being made to expand the Expo into a full-day event next year.

Tuggeranong: Iconic public art has new home on the Lake Tuggeranong foreshore!

An iconic public artwork, Dream Lens for the Future by Keizo Ushio, has found a new home on the Lake Tuggeranong foreshore. Originally located on Northbourne Avenue, the four-tonne granite sculpture was relocated to make way for Light Rail Stage 2A. Its new spot, between the Tuggeranong Library and Community Centre, offers sweeping lake views and invites visitors to pause, reflect, and engage with the artwork. This move strengthens Tuggeranong’s growing identity as a vibrant hub for public art.

Gungahlin: Grand Eid Al-Adha Fest lit up the community spirit

Canberra’s Grand Eid Al-Adha Fest lit up the community spirit over the weekend with a vibrant celebration of culture, connection, and joy. Held at the Canberra Islamic Centre, the event welcomed families from across the city to enjoy sizzling global eats, lively performances, and colourful market stalls. From henna art to kids’ crafts and cultural showcases, the day was a beautiful reminder of Canberra’s unity in diversity. Inner South: Grant Jantke landed his “first metery”

Local angler Grant Jantke landed his “first metery” this week, reeling in a 1005mm Murray cod from Lake Burley Griffin. Caught on light gear—a 1 to 4kg rod with 10-pound line—the fish put up what Grant called the “best fight in ages.” True to form, it was a proud catch-and-release moment, with the cod powering off in a splash the second it was returned to the water. A memorable milestone for one of Canberra’s passionate fishers.

Belconnen: Gritty top-four showdown in the Canberra Raiders Cup

In a gritty top-four showdown, the Queanbeyan Kangaroos proved too strong for the West Belconnen Warriors, grinding out a 14–0 win to climb to the top of the Canberra Raiders Cup ladder. The Warriors showcased their trademark defensive grit, holding out multiple attacking sets and even surviving a 10-minute period with only 12 men. Despite several second-half chances and strong field position, West Belconnen couldn’t crack the Roos’ wall. A late try in the 70th minute sealed the result, with the Warriors now regrouping for the next round.

That’s your week in review.
