Welcome Purpose Writers Crew

I am so excited you are here.

Your Role as a Volunteer Writer

As a volunteer writer, you are:

  • Amplifying unheard voices in the Canberra region.

  • Creating accessible stories that help readers feel hopeful, informed, and inspired.

  • Shaping a new media narrative based on connection, empathy, and community care.

  • Duration: Ongoing

Commitment: This is up to you, but we ask you aim to submit at least one story a month. The more the merrier.

Location: WFH (Canberra-based preferred for F2F component).

    Start Date: June 2025.

Remuneration: This is an unpaid volunteer role, with the opportunity to evolve into Freelancer work as our platform and community grows. But we have a unique offering as a small thank you – more details below.

  • You’re not just writing articles, you’re building trust, celebrating local heroes, and sparking change. You’re welcome to choose from our established themes or bring your own idea to the table. To get a idea of our content take a look at our Good News feed: Your Good News Feed — PurposeCBR

    Here’s what you can write:

    1. People with Purpose

Feature a Canberran making a meaningful difference, whether they’re a volunteer, founder, carer, artist, or quiet achiever. These stories shine a light on humans behind the mission.

    2. Places with Purpose

Profile a location or organisation that creates connection, joy, or support. Think neighbourhood cafés with a story, community gardens, co-ops, health hubs, or grassroots spaces.

    3. Pop Quiz

We are looking for a Quiz Master to develop our weekly Canberra Pop Quiz, 15 questions dropped on a Wednesday night.

    4. News with Purpose

Cover a hyper-local event, campaign launch, grant win, or initiative in a way that’s people-first and community-minded. Prioritise lived experience, not PR fluff.

    5. Re-write the narrative

Notice a particular popular news item that is getting traction, but the reporting is harmful? Re-write the narrative to educate the community and connect all parties to services that can help them. Here is our example: ACT Man Jailed for Sexual Offences: A Community Reminder of Consent, Safety and Survivor Strength — PurposeCBR

    6. Bring Your Own Story

Have something burning to write that doesn’t fit a box above? Beautiful, in fact we encourage this. Write it and we will publish it. If you want to discuss your idea email your pitch to hello@purposemediacbr.au and we’ll help shape the best fit.

  • As a founding volunteer writer, you’ll receive: 🎁 Capital Tier Membership (lifetime access) – valued at $200 p.a.

    You’ll enjoy:

    • Early access to new features and stories

    • Discounted or free community event invites

    • Access to the Members with Purpose portal

    • Exclusive quarterly “Behind the Stories” impact insights

    • Invite-only Purpose Panels and community events

    • Discounted Feature Packages

    • Early access to campaigns, interviews, and collaborations

We are also planning exclusive Writer Connect events to come together to brainstorm, network and enjoy the like minds of Purpose Writers.

This is our way of saying: you matter. Your voice has power. And we’re glad you’re here.
